Held at the Gherkin, overlooking the London skyline and roof tops, Kinley launched a new, innovative terrace system and a prototype sub rail to industry colleagues in September 2016.
During the evening we introduced the new terrace system, including Raaft aluminium joists, adjustable pedestals and RoofTray, plus two new floor finishes, Terrafina composite decking and Atria porcelain tiles.
Guests also heard from the Kinley team about the support we offer to specifiers, contractors and developers throughout all stages of a project. The audience included a whole host of industry colleagues, who really engaged with the Q&A session, talks and networking.

One particular highlight was the insight from inspirational guest speaker, Fiona Barratt-Campbell of FBC Interiors. She gave some truly interesting answers to Stuart’s questions and shared her experience of how terraces are increasingly becoming an essential part of urban landscapes.
Fiona explained that “there is a real perceived value in outdoor space now. Customers are wanting an outdoor space. A terrace is an integral part of a development and city life.”

Why are we focusing on roof terraces?
As Fiona acknowledged at the event, over the last ten years we have seen projects change focus - from roof terraces being the last consideration of the project, with the least budget, to gaining equal importance as the rest of the landscape or interior design.
In fact, as Lloyd Bowie said during his talk, in cities in particular, terraces are seen as high value and property owners can see a “10-30% increase in the value of property for sale or rental with a roof terrace”.
However, a roof terrace crosses over between outdoor landscape and building interior design. The questions customers were asking us were
Clients were finding that a lot of the finer details were being left unfinished.
This is where Kinley and our roof terrace system become invaluable. What Kinley offers is one point of contact, and with our terrace system, one product with many variables that can be applied to any roof terrace. Any questions from design, price and install can be directed to one person.
The challenges clients were having have been answered.
How does our roof terrace system work?
Gerry Woodford, Senior Estimator at Kinley, showcased how the system works, using only the best quality materials available. The terrace system is made up of:

As our CEO, Stuart Bowie puts it, this is the “first properly designed, all in one solution that is totally configurable re-configurable and recyclable and should be the answer to most roof terrace challenges”.
Where are we now?
Since this event, we have taken on board all your feedback, from the evening and beyond, and are continuing to refine our decking system based on what the market needs. As with all our products, we rely on feedback from our customers to shape the next generation of landscape design.
We continue to evolve and have now officially launched our sub rails to the market and introduced a brand-new planter system, Planterline Custom, which can add the finishing touch to any decking area.
Our commitment to urban landscape design
Our event guests were eager to try the decking system and were incredibly candid in their support and feedback on our newest product. It is this shared enthusiasm for creating modern, functional and beautiful outdoor spaces that motivates us to push the boundaries.
Patricia Fox of Aralia Garden Design said at the event, “I honestly believe that Kinley products have got great quality. We’ve specified them for the Chelsea Creek penthouse roof terraces, by St. George and I know that both ourselves, and the client were really pleased with what was delivered.”
This event, as well as everything we do at Kinley, marks our commitment to making it possible for others to create amazing outdoor spaces for people to enjoy. We hope to see you at our next evening.
