The art of landscaping demands many technical qualities but above all, it is creativity and imagination that marks out the best designs. Turning those great ideas into great landscapes is where Kinley comes in.
We’ve been doing it for many years, helping clients fulfill their ambitions. And what we do has just become that much easier thanks to a new addition to the Kinley portfolio.
Paneltech Systems is a family-run fabricator we’ve worked with many times over the years. We know from first-hand experience how good they are, particularly when it comes to CorTen steel projects. Some of the most exceptional architecturally decorative designs we’ve helped landscapers with have been fabricated by Paneltech at their base in East Sussex.
Because we always want to find new ways to help our customers, it made sense to bring Paneltech’s highly experienced team in-house and buy the business. This allowed us to get the full benefit of their very specialist expertise. That way, clients can speak directly with the people doing the fabrication – that’s us now - and discuss precisely what they want and how they can get it.
To make the most of Paneltech’s expertise, we’ve turned its old headquarters into what we’ve called the Kinley Innovation Centre.
We’ll use it to test new ideas and accelerate our innovation capabilities. Which means we’ll come up with more bespoke products more regularly, and deliver them more quickly. And that means our clients, be they designers or contractors, can experiment with a whole range of landscaping solutions, even when under fierce time pressures from their clients. All of this can be achieved for a more cost-effective price. Told you it made sense.
Projects like one we did at Handyside at King’s Cross show how we work, creating bespoke designs for a range of planters. It’s a compact, contemporary space with a children’s play area and open space for the general public. The pathways were created with curved plant and tree beds, defined with Perimeta HiGrade Bespoke organic shaped raised planters in CorTen steel.
The curvilinear design of the planters was achieved by preforming the planter walls in the factory before delivery so that they could simply be bolted together on site. A top capping was also required to take away any risk of the 6mm top edge being exposed and this was overcome by welding on laser cut steel strips to the top edge. Thanks to Paneltech coming on board, we’ll be able to carry out these processes more swiftly.
The landscape also called for a steel planter system that could accommodate varying heights. The Kinley team worked closely with Townshend Landscape Architects right from the concept stages of the ambitious design to engineer a planter system that created and enhanced the vision. Again, this is something that we can handle much more efficiently and speedily now.
With our new colleagues at Paneltech, and our new showroom in Clerkenwell demonstrating all that’s best about landscape products and designs, you can see why challenging the status quo is at the heart of what we do.
We really do want to solve new challenges and push the boundaries of what’s possible for urban landscapes. And we’re now more confident than ever we can create whatever our clients require. Try us.
