Think about London and you might consider its fast-paced city lifestyle, rich historical landscape and cosmopolitan culture. Even if you prefer a more tranquil country life, you cannot escape the draw of the city that remains beautiful throughout the seasons, or be completely indifferent to the bold charm of a landscape built up over centuries.
What better way to enjoy some of the breath-taking and varied views of London, than from a roof top or terrace bar? London’s lazy afternoon and party night life is certainly not boring.
We’ve chosen some of our favourite terrace bars to share with you.
Overlooking St Paul’s Cathedral, and located in the stylish shopping plaza, One New Change, Madison Terrace Bar & Lounge is an energetic venue with good cocktails, food and live music. The inside restaurant opens up onto a large tiled entertainment terrace area with glass fronted balcony. The inside to outside space offers far reaching views over London. It’s popular for after work mixers and client entertaining.
Why we love it: Even the journey to the top is inspiring, with a glass lift giving you views of the cathedral from the ground up.
Located on the tenth floor of the Montcalm Royal London House hotel, Aviary is renowned for its panoramic views of the city’s skyline. It serves good British food and a varied cocktail menu. The large roof top space is styled with decking, colourful planters, unique furniture and mood lighting. With Christmas on the way, their ‘igloos’ will be back for intimate gatherings under the stars.
Why we love it: The contemporary design, cosy feel and far-reaching views make it perfect for a chilled summer’s evening drink.
You could quite easily forget you are in London in this rustic bar garden that offers a very different feel to the typical rooftop London views. This season they are focusing on capturing the magic of an English country garden – serving a selection of fine English wines.
Why we love it: The emphasis is on sustainability. They even grind down the wine bottle corks and put them on the plants to help them retain water. We love a clever idea!
Set over three storeys, the Sky Garden is an impressive landscaped garden at 20 Fenchurch Street – the highest public garden in London. The open-air terrace and observation decks offer unrivalled views across The City. You can stop for a spot of food and drink in the Sky Pod bar. Whilst free to visit, booking is essential.
Why we love it: This space is urban living at its most inspirational – it’s everything that Kinley believes in. It beautifully brings the outside in. What better way to soak up the London skyline.
Radio Rooftop gives off a party vibe, with seasonal pop ups like their spirit of summer Botanical Garden and Mexican Hacienda. The contemporary design mixes neutral and vibrant tones and freestanding planters with stunning views across London to the Shard.
Why we love it: The convenient central location and unique entertainment make it a great place to host a client event.
And just three more…
And because there are so many rooftop and terrace bars to choose from, we thought that another three venues were worth mentioning - Bar Elba in Waterloo, The Curtain in Shoreditch and Alto at Selfridges, Oxford Street.
At Kinley, we have been lucky to work on some incredible projects that combine architecture with open space.
We’ve helped to bring the outside in at Crossrail Place, and bring existing heritage into modern space at London Wall Place.
For us, anything in possible. And that is why we love London. It combines peaceful open spaces with vibrant thriving urban hotspots. For after work drinks, small mixers, formal networking or big client parties – there is something to suit everyone.
Have we missed out a rooftop terrace gem? Let us know your favourite spots for seasonal events and inspirational urban living.
