Dragon Court is situated in the heart of Covent Garden and like many buildings in the area is owned by one of the UK’s leading financial institutions. The need to revitalise the current layout was addressed by Orbit Architects who devised a concept to encompass existing workshop buildings and create a very contemporary series of open plan office suites.
The architects have very cleverly adapted the building by installing glass doors and glazed units to the west and east elevations at third floor level. The existing flat roof space which wraps around the structure at this level has been fully utilised by the use of Terrafina Composite decking which has been further complimented by glass balustrades and bespoke planters. The remodelling of this part of the building included an internal raised floor system so that step-free access leads out on to the roof terrace. The deck has not only provided a less formal area outside the building but also enables views across the west end from three elevations. The composite decking, due to its fixing system, provides a perfectly flat floor area that is free from any trip hazards and is slip resistant even when wet. Steps and level changes are neatly finished with colour matched trims. The decking blurs the lines between inside and outside space making the office area seem far more visually attractive and expansive.

The building refurbishment converted what was once a series of workshops into very desirable commercial office space in the heart of the west end. The increased lettable floor area has provided the landlords with a far more marketable and valuable piece of prime real estate where the decking, and its view across the capital, has made a significant contribution.
