Fire-safe Roof Gardens in the South Bank Development

Mustard Wharf, located in the South Bank neighbourhood of Leeds, offers one-, two- and three-bedroom boutique apartments with roof gardens, a clubhouse, gym and private dining rooms for residents.

Roof spaces at Levels 3 and 4 of the development’s Building A required terrace systems that are attractive, durable, functional and fire-safe.

The client’s original preference for the decking surface was powder-coated aluminium, but as this product only has a Class A2 fire rating they opted for the striking dark-wood effect of Kinley Systems’ Class A1-rated Farrino 'Cocoa' porcelain decking. Other considerations that influenced this decision were Farrino’s resistance to wind uplift and scratch-resistant, slip-resistant surface.

The architects also specified Kinley Systems’ Preventa modular system, using Raaft support joists and Preventa height-adjustable pedestals to create a fully compliant terrace.
