A major redevelopment project in Bethnal Green, London, saw the local authority turn to Kinley’s market-leading landscape edging to create a stunning, well-defined and accessible new outdoor space.

The Regent’s View on the Canal development will see 555 new private and affordable dwellings constructed alongside 1.75 acres of public open space and landscaping, as part of the £25 million scheme to revitalise the former gas site situated next to Regent’s Canal.
The existing gasholder frames, seen as iconic by the local community, will be dismantled, refurbished and reinstated as part of the building design. This will create a strong architectural narrative and reflect the industrial heritage of the site.
By separating the accommodation into five buildings, the visual and pedestrian permeability through the site will be maximised. The residential apartments will also benefit from uninterrupted views of the landscape, the existing gasholder frames and the stunning Regent’s Canal.
With 1.75 acres of open space set to be publicly accessible, the creation of a beautiful external area with delineated spaces and opportunities for biodiversity was a key element of the redevelopment project.
As a result, Tower Hamlets Council sought the specialist landscape edging expertise of Kinley. Brought in at the beginning of the project, Kinley was specified to supply its strong, robust and corrosion-resistant Fort steel landscape edging.
Ideal for high traffic, hard landscape surfaces, yet flexible enough to create sharp angles and bespoke curves, Fort landscape edging enabled the Regent’s View designers to create an aesthetically pleasing appearance while enhancing safety and accessibility for residents and visitors.
Sustainability and biodiversity were major focuses for such a comprehensive development project, meaning Kinley’s Fort edging was the ideal product. Made from sustainable materials and 100% recyclable, Fort would help the local authority and main developer to meet their sustainability targets while creating a beautiful and well-defined landscape.
With the external areas featuring landscaped areas with sweeping curves, the project required very specific, often deep radii. Kinley’s significant expertise in landscape edging design and manufacture played a crucial role here, with its experienced team pre-forming the landscape edging to the client’s exact specifications.
As a result, installation was quick and seamless and what would otherwise have been a very demanding task became a straightforward process for the installation team.
